Part of a group of copy negatives taken in association with June 30, 1964, Arkansas Gazette article "Pictures, Models, Memories Keep Steamboating Alive," B1:2. H.C. Young of Williford, Sharp County, Arkansas has a large collection of pictures and models of steamboats. In 1964, Deane visited Young and made copy negatives of his collection. Young started working with steamboats as a water boy at the docks in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia. Negative series includes the steamboat "Greenland" on the Kanawha River in 1900. Captain Gordon Green's second boat, the Greenland was built in the 1900 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia and ran between Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia and Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Captain Green's wife, Mary Becker Green, piloted the Greenland to the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904.
